Review about the Human Touch HT 1650 Massage Chair

December 14th, 2008

The Luxury massage chair recliner model HT-1650 is the subject of this product review. The HT 1650 is made by Human Touch. The HT1650 is unique in that it looks like a normal recliner, but has many massage therapy capabilities. Let us take a look at this unique massage chair, the HT-1650 by Human Touch.

The warranty coverage is important to remove risk away from the buyer and keep it with the manufacturer. After all, you the consumer are taking a risk any time you buy a product. The idea of a warranty is to balance out the risk equation. Massage chairs consist of both mechanical, electrical and computer systems. We always recommend going with the top name brands to avoid taking undue risk with these big ticket items. Certainly, one can find cheaper massage chairs, but you are also taking much greater risks.

Although, are incidence of problem massage chairs is very low in percentage terms. However, if it happens to you it is 100%. The HT 1650 comes with 5 year coverage on the chair’s structure, 3 years coverage for parts and 1 year coverage for labor and 90 days coverage with field service. This is good, comprehensive coverage with this luxury model and is competitive with the big players.

Human Touch provides an arsenal of automatic programs in the HT-1650 such as full body sore muscle relief, sports and back therapy, leg- foot-hip therapy, neck-shoulders relief, after work stretch, morning wake up, night time soothing, and massage demonstration. There are also 4 manual massage treatments with the following: rolling, compression, kneading and percussion. You can pinpoint certain regions of you back to hit those trouble areas as well.

One interesting feature of the HT 1650 is the acupressure point detector. The acupessure point detector works by performing a body scan of your back. There are almost 100 acupressure points on the back alone. This chair will identify the exact location of you points and then will have the chair target the most important ones during the massage. Certain massage treatments, like shiatsu, make use of stimulating the acupressure points to help the body to fully relax.

The HT-1650 comes with a hidden calf and foot massager. The calf and foot massage doubles as a regular leg rest when not being used for massage. This calf and foot massager is hidden in the front of the chair. The massager can be flipped to reveal the calf and foot massager. This is a great feature in that the calf and foot massager can be hidden from view when not in use.

The calf and foot massager is used for providing a compression massage to either the feet or calves. The compression massage utilizes a squeeze, hold and release technique favored by massage therapists around the world. The calf and foot massage uses a compressor to deliver pressurized air to the airbags which perform the compression massage. This massage is very invigorating and relieving for tight calves and for loosening up the feet after a long day.

One of the impressive features of the HT 1650 is the two sided remote. This unique remote has controls of two of the four sides. This enabled Human Touch to reduce the size of the remote by taking advantage of this remote real estate. With a smaller remote, the remote stand was then removed. In its place is a pocket built into the chair to house the remote control. This is a great design feature which keeps this recliner looking like a recliner–rather than your typical massage chair.

Warming Your Home with Essential Oils

December 12th, 2008

Another beautiful holiday season is upon us, and this time we’d like to do a little something different. A different decor, a different meal, maybe a whole different attitude…What simple thing can one do to make the season special? Bring a little extra cheer to the family? Perhaps even sneak it in to the festivities so they don’t even know it’s happening, but they’re a little happier and healthier? A naturopath’s suggestion: consider aromatherapy. With the chaos of shopping, cooking, cleaning and visiting family, bringing an uplifting, warming atmosphere to your home with the touch of lovely aromas can really make a difference. And pure, real essential oils are a truly effective way to do this - natural aromatics can have a profoundly positive effect on our spirits and the spirits of those around us.

Essential oils offer a totally unique and effective means of creating a warm, familial atmosphere with relative ease. Our hearts and minds respond to aromas before we even ‘think’ about them. Before we’re able to decide whether we like or don’t like a particular smell, our body is already reacting physiologically. In the case of aromatherapy, we’re generally concerned with pleasant, healthy mind/body responses to aroma (and we’ll be discussing the strictly emotional and psychological aspects of aromatherapy here, saving its extremely important roll in our physical health for another time). In scientific studies, the simple aromatic use of pure essential oils has been shown to lower cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, and promote endorphin release…they’ve even been shown to prevent rats from fighting. Imagine what they can do for your family!

Getting started with aromatherapy is a very simple process - you’ll need just a bottle of essential oil (single or blended - we’ll get to some suggestions in a moment) and a means to diffuse the aroma into your living space. Many great ’seasonal’ essential oils are available at local health food stores or over the internet. Essential oil diffusers are often found at the same stores, with a wide selection of prices and style to suit your needs.

Warming diffusers do just that - warm the essential oils either from a cotton pad, or evaporate them from the surface of small bowl of water using a candle. These are inexpensive, easy to use, and make a smaller space smell wonderful. For a little larger area, a fan diffuser passes air over the oils and evaporates them more effectively. A little bit fancier still is an ultrasonic nebulizing diffuser, which is really a small humidifier specially made to make a mist of essential oils along with water. These are nice in dry areas or in homes with forced-air heat. Top-of-the-line are the cold-air nebulizing diffusers which make a mist of the pure essential oils themselves. Cold-air nebulizers can diffuse oils into a very large open area or at high concentrations if your therapeutic needs are such in the future.

And now for the fun part - the essential oils. There are SO many to choose from, and you may start by just browsing sites on the internet which will often have listings of over a hundred oils available. Here we’ll have a look at just a few of the favorites for this time of year. Perhaps the most popular are the ‘needle’ oils, distilled from the needles and twigs of evergreen trees. Balsam Fir is especially nice, with a lightly complex aroma of both high and middle notes. Black Spruce is another favorite, much for the same reason - their sweetness is quite uplifting, and their complexity keeps us interested. Juniper berry, while not strictly a ‘needle’ oil is also wonderfully bright and uplifting. While some find it a bit strong on its own, it blends very well with other essential oils distilled from evergreens.

More ‘traditional’ aromas may appeal more to the adult gatherings; these might include the oils of Frankincense, Myrrh or Sandalwood. These tend to be more grounding scents; very rich and earthy. Frankincense is both light and full at the same time, with its citrus and woody notes. Myrrh is more hypnotic and mysterious, useful in small amounts. Sandalwood is a classic favorite - while the Indian varieties are a little pricey, wonderful oils are coming from Australian and the South Pacific. Each of these oils makes wonderful additions to a blend containing primarily the evergreens described above; they can also be mixed together for an exquisite experience (try two parts each of Frankincense and Sandalwood to one part Myrrh).

Perhaps you want to get a little more creative? Choose some of your favorite aromas and experiment. Citrus oils like Sweet Orange and Bergamot are excellent, uplifting scents. Small amounts of oils like Clove or Cardamom can be added to spice things up (Cinnamon is not generally recommended for diffuser use, as it can be too potent even in very small amounts). The common floral aromas of Lavender and Chamomile can be useful for soothing the young ones. If you’d like to create your own blend, but don’t have a recipe, its often best to make a small amount first, counting by single drops the amount of each oil until you like they way they’re blending. Then make a larger amount based on the ratios of the drops you’ve used.

You really only need a small amount of pure essential oil to make your home a happy, healthy and comfortable space. One small bottle and a diffuser will do wonders. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can mix and match as your olfactory sense desires, seeing how you and your family respond to the tried-and-true effects of pure essential oils. Almost certainly, they’re bound to have a positive effect on your holiday season.

Massage Your Way To Health And Relaxation

December 11th, 2008

A body massage has a revitalizing effect on the body. It relaxes you, it invigorates you, it refreshes you. Read on to find out how a massage can do wonders for you in more ways than you thought possible.

You must have experienced a fair share of massages given to you, and you must have given others a number of massages yourself. Even at that non-professional level you’ll have noticed how the person receiving the massage feels and reacts. They feel all ‘thawed’ out! Relaxed, comfortable, at ease, tension-free, rested, and energized. That’s the basic idea behind the activity known as a massage. The body massage has found a place of importance in a number of alternative therapies which are a continuation of the ancient, classical medical traditions. Let’s see what a massage therapist does.

You must visit a qualified, trained, professional masseur to get the real benefits of a full body massage. He will take you into a private cabin. There you will have to lie prone on the massage table, with a sheet draped over your body. The massage is given directly to the body areas and so you have to remove your clothes. You can choose to have a general massage or a special deep tissue massage or any other type of massage which is on offer. The choice is yours, and as you gain more experience in getting massaged, you will be better able to make your selection of a specific massage.

The first thing that happens when the massaging starts, is that the blood circulation gets enhanced. ‘Enlivened’ is the proper word for what happens to the blood circulation. The blood being the life force of the body, its increased circulation means the whole body gets livened up. When we exert ourselves physically, the muscles get tired due to the accumulation of certain catabolic wastes. The enhanced circulation washes away these wastes and voila! the muscles are not tired anymore! The blood contains elements which are vital for health or healing in other words. So damaged muscles, ligaments, and tissues get healed faster due to the enhanced blood circulation. That’s why you feel fresh and whole during and after a massage.

Insufficient activity and improper posture cause our blood vessels and nerves to get displaced from their normal positions. Our health suffers when the blood vessels are twisted out of place. When the nerves get cramped it tells on our brain in the form of a pervasive tension or stress. Thus our health and wellness both suffer. In a body massage, the masseur firmly manipulates the body, helping choked blood vessels to open up, which increases the transport of oxygen, nutrients and disease-fighting antibodies throughout the body. Damaged muscles and other tissues get repaired faster. Unhealthy flab is worked away in the massage. The masseur’s manipulations help nerves to get uncramped, thus relieving stress and tension. The blood circulation of the skin gets pepped up as well, resulting in a tighter, healthier skin tone. So, a full body massage gives us many benefits in one go.

Most of us see only the physical aspect of a massage. What most people don’t know is that a massage improves our mental health as well. The enhanced blood circulation clears out tension-causing artifacts and toxins from the brain. A properly administered massage makes you feel rested, and helps you get a good, satisfying sleep.

Massage therapy is a form of touch therapy. A touch or a caress shows empathy. It is probably instinctive in those animals that must seek their mother for support and feeding as soon as they are born. Most animals are born blind, and so they depend on touch to find and detect their mother. Even if not blind, young ones nestle and cuddle up against their mother when they sleep, the touch, the feel being sufficient to reassure them of a support system. Our subconscious translates the masseur’s professional touch to a strong, positive symbol of reassurance and of support. Hence, our spirits are lifted and we emerge from the massage psychologically healthy.

Maybe you consider a full body massage a fad, with cosmetic benefits solely. That is not the whole fact. Massage therapy is definitely a therapeutic activity. Allopathy includes it in physiotherapy. Many Oriental medical systems are based solely on massage therapy, as for example, acupressure and acupuncture. So you need have no reservations about its efficacy and scientific validity. Just be sure to go to a licensed professional massage therapist. You’ll feel recharged and healthy, physically, mentally, and psychologically.

Guilt Free Winter Pleasures with Essential Oils

December 11th, 2008

The Season is once again upon us. So much to do, and so many people to take care of. Through all the chaos, we’d like to always to a little something special to bring extra cheer to our gatherings of friends and family…but how? Ever tried ‘real’ aromatherapy? Not just a potpourri in the bathroom, or lemon-scented detergent. Real aromatherapy with pure essential oils. It can make a difference, creating a warm, friendly, familial atmosphere inspiring a smile on everyone’s faces. There may even be some health supporting side effects as well, just from smelling something good…

Essential oils offer a totally unique and effective means of creating a warm, familial atmosphere with relative ease. Our hearts and minds respond to aromas before we even ‘think’ about them. Before we’re able to decide whether we like or don’t like a particular smell, our body is already reacting physiologically. Juniper berry, while not strictly a ‘needle’ oil is also wonderfully bright and uplifting. While some find it a bit strong on its own, it blends very well with other essential oils distilled from evergreens.

Even somewhat more traditional for the season can be the more resinous oils of Frankincense, Sandalwood and Myrrh. These tend to be more earthy and grounding than the evergreen oils, perhaps a little more calming - exactly what many homes are in need of right about now. Each has unique characteristics: nice Frankincense will have both bright citrus notes and deeper woody notes. Sandalwood is a little softer, and is well known for its calming effects. Myrrh can be slightly sharper (look for a good quality one for the smoothest aroma) with a special scent and calming quality of its own. These three oils can successfully be blended together quite easily (try 2 parts Frankincense, 2 parts Sandalwood, 1 part Myrrh) or blend any one of them in small amounts with the evergreen oil of your choice.

Then make a larger amount based on the ratios of the drops you’ve used.

You’ll really only need one essential oil, or maybe a just a few if you’re feeling adventurous, to get you started. About one-half ounce (15 milliliters) of any pure essential oil will last several days, and you won’t be sorry you have some left over if you don’t use it all by the end of the year. A little pure essential oil goes a long way; it’s always better to get a little hint of aroma than to be overwhelmed by it, so start slowly if this is your first time. With a little intuition, you can create a warm, comfortable, calm and/or happy atmosphere naturally with essential oils - and you’ll have added that extra little something that can bring bigger smiles to your family’s faces this season.

Product Review of Panasonic EP-1272 Massage Chair

December 11th, 2008

We will take a look at the EP-1272 which is part of the Real Pro Elite series of massage chair by Panasonic. The EP 1272 is a mid range shiatsu massage recliner with advanced massage therapy features. We will review some of the main features and touch on the warranty coverage as well. Here is our evaluation and review of the EP 1272 shiatsu massage recliner.

The warranty protection is critical on big ticket items such as massage chairs. You want to make sure you have adequate protection down the road, regardless of brand. The EP 1272 comes with 3 years parts and 1 year labor. Service for repair is through an authorized dealer. This may be convenient for Panasonic, but not for the owner of a 200 lb. massage chair. They now offer in home service, but this service is not included.

Let’s look at some of the more important features of this shiatsu recliner. There are many therapeutic massage functions incorporated into this model. There are 4 automatic massage programs, 8 manual massage programs, and 3 manual back massage courses. There are also lower body air massage capabilities for the calves and feet.

Choose from the 4 one touch programs for your convenience. These one touch programs include Swedish, shiatsu, stretch and quick. Swedish targets the loosening of the back, neck and shoulders with long strokes, circular motions and other rhythmic movements. Shiatsu stimulates the back, neck and shoulders with a soft, deep rubbing motion and tapping actions. Stretch will use rolling, pressing, shiatsu and kneading massages to target the back and shoulders. Quick gives a fast overall massage with emphasis on the back, neck and shoulders for a relieving massage.

The 8 manual massage modes include the following massage techniques: kneading, compression, Swedish, Hawaiian, soft shiatsu, tapping, regional rolling and full rolling. Kneading is particularly effective for the neck and shoulders. Compression is recommended for full body relaxation. Swedish loosens up large areas of the back. Hawaiian helps to relieve tension in the lower back. Soft shiatsu is excellent for loosening up knots in the back. Tapping loosens up the finer muscles of the neck or as a finishing massage. Regional rolling provides focused rolling out of the back muscles. Full rolling provides overall stretching of the back muscles.

If you like to have your feet or calves massaged, then the EP 1272 can provide relief for you. The leg rest has built in air bags to provide a soothing and comforting compression massage. Position the area of your leg and let the EP1272 work out those tight calf muscles. Raise the leg rest more horizontal and place your feet in for a relaxing and relieving foot massage. The EP 1272 is a treat for both your calves and feet.

The remote control is well designed. It is both simple and easy to understand and to use. Select from the 4 one touch auto programs for immediate full body massage therapy. The side panel contains the 8 manual massage programs. Just select the technique for you and select a back course and let it work you over until your troubles are gone. There are adjustments for the massage intensity and the width of the rollers. The control also allows you to pinpoint a specific target area in your back for custom relief.

The EP1272 is the midrange Real Pro Elite from Panasonic. It is packed full of manual massage techniques for a barrage of custom massage therapies. The massage therapy is thorough and invigorating with this massage recliner. We are a bit disappointed with the industrial looking design and the short warranty. Other than this, this is a solid performer and a great value in the mid range level of massage chair recliners.

Product Review of the Sanyo SR-1000 Massage Chair

December 9th, 2008

Sanyo has an entry level massage chair called the SR-1000K. The SR-1000K has many of the same features as some of the higher end chairs made by Sanyo. This product review will discuss some of the more salient features and functions of the SR 1000K massage chair by Sanyo.

What about the warranty coverage provided by Sanyo for the SR-1000K? The SR 1000K comes with three year coverage for the roller mechanism. This is the mechanical system that performs the massage functions for the back, neck and shoulders. Sanyo will also cover the parts for one year and the labor for year. One of the more generous elements of the warranty is providing in home repair for the first year of ownership.

The SR 1000K has some very unique and interesting features. We will start with the massage therapy features. This massage recliner comes with 2 automatic programs which include relax and recovery. You first select the auto button and then the massage therapy program. You can then select the area to massage. Your choices are neck/shoulder, upper body, or waist.

Sanyo has incorporated a stiffness detector in the SR-1000K. The stiffness detector senses tight muscles in the body. It uses technology similar to a lie detector and knows where stress is being detected. The sensor works by you holding the sensor in your hand. The sensor then feeds that data to the computer which then directs the massage to concentrate on the stiff areas detected.

There are manual massage methods also built into the programming of the massage chair. These manual massages use one type of technique once selected. However, you can compliment the manual massage technique with 2 variations of leg stretches. Just select the type of stretch you would like and the SR 1000 will add it as part of the manual program as it is running.

One of the very unique functions of the massage chair is the leg rest massage mechanism. The leg rest can target the calves and also the feet. It has a special flip down portion that is used to massage the feet. It can be flipped up and hidden from view when not in use. You do have to position your feet to flip the portion down. The massage is pretty invigorating and can be relieving for the feet and calves.

The remote of the SR1000K is fairly well designed. You have to get used to the sequence of the commands. It is laid out well and not too hard to pick up with use. It uses gradients of lights to show the intensity which helps it be more intuitive to use and to read.

The Sanyo line starts with the SR-1000K massage recliner. It has some of the same features as the higher products in the line. However, it has a completely different look than the other Sanyo massage chairs. The leg rest is also unique to the SR 1000. The massage therapy is pretty effective. The foot portion of the leg rest can be hidden from view which saves space and makes it more attractive. The warranty is very good for this level of massage chair as well. Overall, the SR1000K is a pretty solid value for an entry massage chair recliner.

Classic Shiatsu Therapy is Delivered in Massage Chairs

December 8th, 2008

Shiatsu massage is a very effective massage therapy treatment. It has its origins in Chinese acupuncture. Shiatsu uses acupressure by pressing either the finger or thumb in trigger points located throughout the body. Shiatsu developed in Japan and has been shown to effectively relieve aches, pain and discomfort. It also helps increase awareness and mental sharpness. Massage chairs originated in Japan as a mechanical adaptation of shiatsu massage. Shiatsu was one of the first massage therapies to be successfully replicated in massage chairs.

A master shiatsu therapist is trained to locate and apply gentle pressure to your body’s acupressure points. By using gentle, yet firm pressure, energy is restored throughout the body. This helps to bring back harmony and well being. The shiatsu also uses vigorous tapping to loosen tight muscles. a firm kneading action is used to make the muscles more pliable. This helps to restore the muscles natural elasticity.

The best massage chair brands provide a very thorough and effective shiatsu massage. This is all possible with the integration of advanced software programming with infrared body scanning. This technology identifies each individuals trigger points. The software then adjusts the massage to pinpoint your specific acupressure points. The result is a truly custom and effective shiatsu massage therapy.

Massage chair companies continue to refine and perfect the long standing traditions of shiatsu massage. They have overcome many technological hurldes to deliver truly amazing and effective shiatsu massage. From the development of finger like appendages to sophisticated software programs that can map over 100 acupressure points on the back alone. These technologies are advancing rapidly to make these robotic masseuses more like the human touch.

There are various subtle massage techniques with shiatsu massage. Shiatsu uses the fingers and thumbs to penetrate into pressure points to release energy. The energy can become blocked and cause the muscles to tighten. Shiatsu seeks to reverse this process. Through the use of the body’s trigger points, the energy flow is once again restored. Shiatsu has been shown to increase alertness and relaxation. It also relieves aches and pains in the muscles.

Shiatsu is geared to reverse the process of the body under tension. When the body is under tension, the vital organs kick into high gear to support the body. This stress tightens muscles for action. Shiatsu works to stimulate the acupressure points to relax the vital organs. This helps the whole body to relax. The kneading and tapping actions help to stimulate the muscles. These techniques have been imitated quite precisely in the best massage chair recliners.

If you carry a lot of tension and anxiety, let the shiatsu massage relieve you. Imagine coming how to your own shiatsu massage chair. It is there eagerly awaiting your arrival. Tension relief is just the push of a button away. Lean the massage recliner back and let the shiatsu massage melt your worries away. These massage recliners provide thorough and effective shiatsu massage therapy.

The shiatsu massage chairs today are beautifully crafted master masseuses. They have certainly overcome some major technical challenges. These sophisticated wonders have realistic feeling fingers and thumbs to provide superior back coverage. They are getting closer and closer to the human touch. They also have some distinct advantages. They are always available and never tire, even when you push their buttons. The shiatsu massage chairs of today are truly technological wonders that will soon be an indespensible asset in your home.

Complete Body Massage Effectively Replicated in Chair Recliners

December 8th, 2008

If you have ever gotten a whole body massage, then you know the blissful relaxation as your tensions and anxieties are systematically wiped away. You know that a massage is a mind and body experience where both must relax in order to have a satisfying outcome. Most people think they have to see a masseuse to have this gratifying experience. Many of the top massage chair companies have created very effective massage therapies into their therapeutic loungers.

Interestingly, most people think of a massage chair as a luxury. In some cases it certainly is a luxury. However, the impression people have is that massage chairs are expensive. And they are right if you only look at the price tag and not the lifetime value of the massage chair. A massage chair is actually the most cost effective massage treatment available. It can run as little as a dollar a day and no tip required. Now, most people think massage recliners just massage your back. In reality, massage chairs perform whole body massages.

Panasonic has the EP30004 massage recliner that can provide full body coverage. The Real Pro Ultra series has 5 automatic programs that perform the following massage therapies: Shiatsu, Swedish, Deep, Arm and Leg Stretch. These massages are performed by sophisticated software driving a mechanical roller system to full back coverage. You can target specific areas with 4 manual courses.

You do not have to go to the spa to relax, if you have the Omega Montage Premier Massage chair. The Montage Premier provides a thorough full body massage from your head to your toes. Additionally, the Montage comes with full body heat, where you can apply heat in the back, seat and the leg rest. The Montage Premier has a built in MP3 player so you can put on the included headphones and relax to your favorite music during the massage. This recliner also has a music synchronization function. This function will massage you to the rhythm of your music.

Massage chairs advance with technology. They are integrating sophisticated software, hardware, mechanical systems, comfort and luxury. Technology is enabling finer and finer movements, therapies and precision to improve the effectiveness of the massage. Companies routinely study hand movements of master therapists and replicate it mechanically. Some massage recliners have mechanical thumbs to perform gripping massages which are great in the neck and shoulder areas. There will be a continuing stream of innovations improving these recliners rapidly.

If you have never tried a massage chair, you definitely should. Most people are surprised at how effective it delivers massage therapy. Again, the technology keeps advancing rapidly and even chairs from a few years ago lack many of the new features that are available today. If you have not had a full body massage, then you are really in for a treat. Sometimes there is some discomfort as you start to relax your muscles that have not been touched in a long time. Let the massage penetrate deeply into the muscle tissue. This is always a good gage of your stress level to see if the massage makes squirm a little bit. This is especially true if you have not had one in a while. A whole body massage will help change your attitude and get your body reinvigorated. Let a massage chair deliver a whole body massage to you in your own home.

Shiatsu Therapy is Replicated in Massage Chairs

Shiatsu massage has been a tradition in Japan for centuries. The literal meaning of shiatsu is finger pressure. Using this finger pressure was found to help regulate and control energy flow throughout the body. The fine art and tradition of shiatsu has been passed to today’s massage therapists. Technology has seen advances in the features designed to perform shiatsu techniques incorporated into massage chairs. Since the beginning of time, shiatsu massage has been performed by humans in traditional medicine. The mechanical systems integrated into current shiatsu massage chairs realistically imitate hand and finger movements. Amazingly, the integration of electronics and software controls make theses mechanical fingers do many functions. Human contact has many subtle movements which are difficult to copy, but machines do not get tired.

The human touch is difficult to replicate. It is a complex challenge. However, many of the subtle movements of the hand have been imitated. Many massage chairs can perform many of the same tasks. The flexibility of our hands is quite amazing, but massage chair designers keep finding more innovative ways to make them realistic. However, these robotic massage chairs do have advantages over massage therapists. You can use them anytime and they do not get exhausted. Many have features such as heat therapy, music, lower body stretching, and of course full body massage capabilities. A shiatsu massage chair is a compliment to the long tradition of the shiatsu massage technique.
